Soren, the working president of the ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) in the state, was released from jail on June 28 after the High Court granted him bail in a money laundering case related to the land scam.
A Congress MLA said 'In view of the Jharkhand assembly elections, our party has asked us to attend the meeting of the 'India' alliance MLAs on Wednesday. The MLA said that this meeting is important as the alliance has to prepare its strategy for the elections to be held later this year.
“JMM leader Mithilesh Kumar also said that the meeting has been called to discuss the strategies for the upcoming assembly elections. Meanwhile, there is speculation that the issue of leadership may also be discussed in the meeting. After the arrest of Hemant Soren by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), his close aide Champai Soren was handed over the reins of the state.”
JMM spokesperson Manoj Pandey said that the agenda of the meeting is 'political developments' in the state. The ED arrested Soren on January 31 in a money laundering case related to the alleged land scam.
