In an effort to garner support for chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, who is presently being held in Tihar Jail in relation to the Delhi excise policy case, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) organized a walkathon on Sunday morning at Rajinder Nagar in central Delhi with the theme "Jail ka Jawab Vote se."

Along with hundreds of party workers wearing yellow T-shirts with images of the jailed chief minister and the slogan "Jail Ka Jawab Vote Se," the AAP candidate for the New Delhi seat, Somnath Bharti, along with Delhi cabinet ministers Saurabh Bharadwaj, Gopal Rai, MP Sanjay Singh, Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi, and several other MLAs, marched.

The marchers held signs reading "Jail ka Jawab Vote Se," "Arvind Kejriwal Zindabad," "Bharat Mata Ki Jai," and "Vande Mataram" as they made their way through the Capital's streets. The AAP youth wing carried cutouts of AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal along with party flags in the colors blue and yellow.

According to Bhardwaj, the party also set up a sizable symbolic "BJP washing machine" model, into which a "corrupt leader" might go and emerge with all accusations withdrawn. He continued, mocking a number of BJP figures, including Ajit Pawar, the leader of the Nationalist Congress Party (Ajit Pawar Faction), and Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sharma. "We are highlighting how all the sins of the corrupt are washed away after they join BJP," he said. Entering the washing machine model, workers dressed like these leaders emerged sporting saffron T-shirts.

AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh said that a walkathon was a way to convey a message to the people. “We are approaching the public and telling them how after 2014, this washing machine is washing away the corruption stains of corrupt people across the country after they collaborate with the BJP, gain its support, and become ministers,” he added. Singh also made scathing remarks on electoral bonds. “The way the Delhi CM has been wrongfully jailed, the people of Delhi will respond to it by voting (AAP) and all the seven seats in Delhi will go to the INDIA bloc,” Singh added.

“Gopal Rai, the state leader for the AAP in Delhi, alleged that the BJP had jailed AAP candidate Tejriwal, who had won with a resounding majority, in the middle of the election without providing any proof.”

"The arrest has infuriated the citizens of Delhi greatly. Delhi residents are questioning why the BJP jailed a serving chief minister rather than running for office on the basis of his accomplishments. Everywhere in Delhi, there is a collective voice saying that the BJP's dictatorship must end.

Mayor Oberoi said that the AAP is a party of educated leaders. “We are talking to the voters of Delhi about the power of their vote through the walkathon. BJP is running the government in a dictatorial manner, which is a threat to democracy and the Constitution. Now there is a need to save the country.”

Before blaming others, BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor suggested that the AAP leaders explain to the people of Delhi why Kejriwal was unable to obtain release from any court and "why he has become a part of the INDIA bloc with the leaders who are in the bail train." He continued, saying that it looks quite absurd for leaders like Sanjay Singh, who is free on bail, to talk about corruption. As a result, the democratic system is becoming less credible.

Kapoor said, ”Now, no matter how many statements that the ’AAP’ leaders make, all the seven candidates of the INDIA bloc will lose the elections by lakhs of votes.”
