Rahul Gandhi fails to appear in the Modi surname Defamation case.

Rahul Gandhi, the Congress leader, did not appear in Ranchi's MP-MLA Special Court today for the hearing of a defamation lawsuit over his claimed insulting statements regarding the Modi family.

The court had set today's session to debate the formulation of charges, which required Gandhi's physical appearance. However, the complainant's lawyer filed a warrant against Gandhi for his failure to appear. The judge declined to issue the warrant, citing the lack of documentation that Gandhi received the summons.

“Advocate Pradeep Modi filed this defamation action in April 2019, following Gandhi's remarks at an election rally in Ranchi. Gandhi reportedly declared,”

"All people with the surname Modi are robbers," which purportedly offended the Modi community.

The case was originally filed in Ranchi Civil Court and was transferred to the MP-MLA Court in September 2021. Despite the fact that Gandhi's appeal for exemption from presence was denied, the court proceeded after receiving a service report confirming summons delivery.

The next courtroom date is still pending as the court awaits confirmation of the summoning service to Rahul Gandhi, prolonging the legal struggle over his disputed election rally statement.
