In a bid to curb examination malpractices, the Bihar government has introduced the Bihar Public Examination Unfair Means Prevention Bill 2024 in the Assembly. Following the recent NEET paper leak in Patna, the Nitish government has taken a decisive step to maintain the integrity of public examinations. The bill proposes harsh punishments, including up to 10 years in jail and fines reaching Rs 1 crore for offenders.
Choudhary emphasized that the bill targets all those using unfair means in examinations, making such offenses cognizable and non-bailable. He noted that the central government has already implemented similar laws and urged states to follow suit. The new bill stipulates a minimum punishment of 3 years and a maximum of 5 years for those involved, with significant fines for service providers violating examination rules.
This move comes in response to recent incidents of cheating in 48 examinations across 16 states, highlighting the need for stricter measures. The bill also includes provisions to blacklist violators for four years, ensuring a robust deterrent against future malpractices.
Choudhary criticized the opposition for walking out during the bill's discussion, underscoring the importance of transparent and fair examination processes for equal opportunities for all candidates.
