Nitish Kumar Assigns Major Role to Shyam Rajak in JDU

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has given a significant responsibility to former minister Shyam Rajak, appointing him as the national general secretary of the Janata Dal (United). Rajak, who recently defected from the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), joined JDU on September 1. His departure from RJD followed dissatisfaction over the distribution of tickets for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, even accusing RJD chief Lalu Yadav of promoting dynastic politics.

This appointment reflects the internal restructuring within JDU ahead of the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections. Nitish Kumar’s party recently reformed its state executive committee, inducting 118 new members, and revamped its organizational structure by dissolving old committees and forming new ones.

Shyam Rajak, a long-time member of RJD before shifting to JDU, expressed his gratitude, praising Nitish Kumar's leadership and development work in Bihar. Having begun his political career with RJD, Rajak briefly returned to the party in 2020, only to now find a home again in JDU.

Shyam Rajak’s new role as national general secretary of JDU marks a significant shift in Bihar’s political landscape, highlighting Nitish Kumar’s efforts to strengthen his party ahead of the 2025 assembly elections.
