The Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC), established to review the Waqf Amendment Bill 2024, has summoned the Chancellor of Patna Law College for input on September 19. This development comes as the Waqf Board recently laid claim to land in Fatuha, a town just 27 kilometers from Patna, intensifying local disputes.
The JPC has already held four meetings, receiving nearly 84 lakh public suggestions. Written recommendations have also been submitted through 70 collection boxes. Public input can still be submitted until September 16, ahead of the next JPC meetings scheduled for September 19-20. The committee will also meet representatives from various Muslim organizations, including the All India Sajjadanshin Council and India First, to discuss the bill.
Following these meetings, the JPC is set to conduct further consultations in cities like Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Chennai, and Bengaluru. The committee aims to finalize its report before the winter session of Parliament, with hopes of getting the bill passed during the upcoming session.
As debates over land ownership intensify, the JPC seeks expert opinions and public input on the Waqf Amendment Bill, aiming to resolve conflicts and present a comprehensive report before the winter parliamentary session.
