Hemant Soren takes the oath of office as the third chief minister of Jharkhand.

Jalpaiguri Hemant Soren, the leader of the Mukti Morcha (JMM), was sworn in for the third time as Jharkhand's chief minister a few days after the high court had granted him bail in an accused money laundering case.

An intriguing development occurred when Soren abruptly delayed the oath-taking ceremony, which was originally slated for July 7, for today. This was after Soren met with CP Radhakrishnan, the governor of Jharkhand.

The only person to take an oath on Thursday was Soren.

Prior to Champai Soren's resignation and oath-taking as Jharkhand's 12th chief minister following Hemant's detention by the Enforcement Directorate on January 31, Soren made a claim before Governor CP Radhakrishnan on Wednesday.

“We all know what happened to Hemant Soren, thus he was forced to resign. However, our cooperation is strong, and today we have a new boss. I have resigned voluntarily, and Hemant Soren has been chosen as the parliamentary party leader of the alliance," stated the former chief minister Champai.”

Nishikant Dubey, the BJP MP for Godda, poked fun at the JMM's action in the interim by referring to it as a "family-oriented party"

In Jharkhand, the Champai Soren period is finished. Those outside the family have no political future in the family-oriented party. In a post on X, Dubey expressed his desire that the chief minister will take a cue from Bhagwan Birsa Munda and confront the dishonest Hemant Soren ji.

With 47 members out of 81, JMM and its allies hold a strong majority in the state legislature. The opposition, lead by the BJP, is represented by 30 members, with 27 members from JMM, 18 from Congress, and one each from RJD and CPI(ML)L. In the meanwhile, the state assembly is still without four seats.
