Ahead of his fourth swearing-in as Jharkhand's Chief Minister, Hemant Soren took a compassionate step to honor the sacrifice of Agniveer Arjun Mahto, who lost his life in a recent encounter in Assam. In a pre-oath ceremony, Soren pledged ₹10 lakh and a government job for Mahto's family as a mark of gratitude for his supreme sacrifice.
Mahto’s family, including his mother, sister, and brother, was escorted to the event at the Ranchi Project Building, where the announcement was made. Soren expressed his condolences via social media, stating, “Jharkhand's brave son Agniveer Arjun Mahto sacrificed his life for the nation. His sacrifice will forever be remembered.” He also urged the central government to recognize Agniveers as full-fledged soldiers and end discrimination against them.
Agniveer Mahto, a native of Bokaro’s Chandan Kiyari village, succumbed during a confrontation on November 22. His family and community continue to mourn his loss.
Hemant Soren’s gesture reflects his commitment to supporting the state's brave soldiers and their families. As he steps into his historic fourth term, his actions emphasize his dedication to both governance and humanity.
