Election Over And Bail Not Extended, Arvind Kejriwal Back In Tihar Jail

"I did not waste even one minute of the 21 days. I campaigned for all parties. I campaigned to save the country," Arvind kejriwal said, tagging it an "unforgettable" experience.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal received his interim bail Thursday evening after turning himself in at Tihar jail following the Lok Sabha elections. He took a roundabout way. He left his house at around three in the afternoon to pay his respects to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat, followed by the Hanuman Mandir and the party headquarters. His last stop was the jail, which he departed 21 days prior after the Supreme Court granted him temporary release.

At today's Aam Aadmi Party headquarters, Mr. Kejriwal expressed gratitude to the Supreme Court while addressing party employees. Interim bail had proven successful, he said.

"I did not waste even one minute of the 21 days. I campaigned for all parties. I campaigned to save the country. The country is important, Aam Aadmi Party is second," he said, tagging it an "unforgettable" experience.

"The best thing that happened during this campaign was that Prime Minister Narendra Modi admitted that he did not have even an iota of evidence against me," Mr Kejriwal added. He also questioned how the Chief Minister of a government with a resounding majority could be imprisoned without proof and accused the Central government of being a tyranny.

“"This is a dictatorship. I will put anyone I wish in jail and send a message to the whole country that when I can put Kejriwal in jail, I can put anyone in jail," he added.”

Along with the party leaders, Durgesh Pathak, Rakhi Birla, and Reena Gupta, as well as Rajya Sabha MPs Sanjay Singh and Sandeep Pathak, Delhi ministers Atishi, Kailash Gahlot, and Saurabh Bharadwaj, were in attendance with the AAP chief and his wife Sunita Kejriwal.

Mr. Kejriwal, who is being accused in the Delhi liquor policy case, was incarcerated from April 1 until the Supreme Court granted him reprieve.

A major controversy around his diabetes and medicine surrounded his incarceration in Tihar. The Chief Minister and his party claimed that the authorities had stopped providing him with medication since his detention. According to the Enforcement Directorate, Mr. Kejriwal consumed food that was unsuitable for someone with diabetes.

Mr. Kejriwal stated today that he was unclear of the kind of care he would get this time around. He had requested an extension of his bail yesterday due to health concerns, but he had received no prompt relief.

"I don't know what these people will do to me… We are disciples of Bhagat Singh, we are going to jail to save the country… When power becomes dictatorship, jail becomes a responsibility," he added.
