By-elections to be Held on 4 Seats Before Bihar Assembly Elections: A Semi-Final Showdown

The current support dynamics in the Bihar assembly seem to have little impact on the government. However, the upcoming by-elections on four seats are poised to be a critical prelude to the 2025 assembly elections.

Both the ruling and opposition alliances have initiated their strategies for 'Mission 2025'. Yet, before the grand showdown, these by-elections are being termed as a semi-final. In a recent by-election on the Rupauli assembly seat, both Nitish Kumar and Tejashwi Yadav faced disappointment as an independent candidate emerged victorious. Political analysts predict that the alliances will aim to build momentum for 2025 by performing well in these by-elections.

The NDA has finalized its seat-sharing arrangement, with the BJP securing two seats, and JDU and HAM (Hindustani Awam Morcha) getting one seat each. The hunt for winning candidates has intensified within the parties, and the NDA is emphasizing unity. CM Nitish Kumar has strategized meticulously, deploying JDU's veteran leaders to create a favorable atmosphere.

The BJP is also focusing on 'micro-management' to ensure a robust performance. The organizational landscape of both Bihar BJP and JDU has recently shifted, with Dilip Jaiswal now leading Bihar BJP, and Sanjay Jha as JDU's working president. On the opposition front, Tejashwi Yadav aims to reinforce RJD's position in the assembly, although his primary focus remains on the 2025 elections. He plans a statewide tour soon, despite no current discussions on seat-sharing within the grand alliance.

The by-elections are not just a political contest but a strategic maneuver to gain early momentum for the 2025 Bihar assembly elections. With significant shifts in leadership and tactics, both alliances are gearing up for a crucial battle that could set the tone for the future political landscape of Bihar.
