BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari has raised alarms over the potential threat of Bangladeshi infiltration into Jharkhand, accusing West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of refusing to allocate land for border fencing due to her “appeasement politics.” Speaking at a BJP event in Jharkhand, Adhikari claimed that in 72 locations along the Bangladesh-West Bengal border, the Mamata government has not provided land to the Border Security Force (BSF) for completing necessary fencing.
Adhikari warned that the lack of fencing could lead to an increase in illegal immigration, which he sees as a direct threat to both West Bengal and Jharkhand’s Hindu and tribal populations. He stressed the need for a "double-engine government" — one led by the BJP both at the state and national levels — to ensure stronger border protection.
As tensions rise between political parties, Suvendu Adhikari’s remarks highlight the critical issue of national security along the Bangladesh border. Whether this sparks further political discourse or tangible security improvements remains to be seen.
