The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has condemned the Jharkhand government’s decision to suspend mobile internet services for five hours on Saturday and Sunday during the Jharkhand Graduate Level Combined Competitive Examination (JGGLCCE). The internet shutdown, which took place between 8 AM and 1:30 PM, aimed to prevent malpractice during the exams. However, BJP leaders have criticized the move, labeling it as a tactic to hide the government's inefficiency.
BJP spokesperson Pratul Shahdeo remarked, "The government’s inability to create a foolproof system has led them to impose this arbitrary shutdown, affecting 3.5 crore people." He further added that this decision reflects the government’s failure to conduct exams efficiently without disrupting citizens' daily lives. Criticism was echoed by Union Minister Sanjay Seth, who argued that such measures cause undue hardship for the public.
While the government justified its action, citing past incidents where internet connectivity was misused during exams, opposition leaders questioned the necessity of such a widespread blackout. The Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission conducted the exams at 823 centers, with over 6.39 lakh candidates participating.
The internet suspension in Jharkhand during the competitive exams has sparked political controversy, with the BJP accusing the government of covering up its inefficiency. As the debate over the necessity of such extreme measures continues, the impact on candidates and the broader public remains a significant concern.
