Bihar’s First DM Ranking Released: Araria at the Bottom, Banka Leads

For the first time in Bihar, the state government has released a performance ranking of District Magistrates (DMs), with Araria’s DM coming in last. The rankings, issued by the Revenue and Land Reforms Department, were based on several parameters, including the resolution of land disputes, monitoring of government schemes, and administrative efficiency.

At the top of the list is Banka, followed by Sheikhpura and Siwan in second and third place, respectively. The ranking system evaluates the effectiveness of district administrations in implementing various state and central government schemes. In Araria, the DM scored only 20.9 out of 100, leading to widespread criticism. In contrast, Banka’s DM, Anshul Kumar, achieved the highest score with 56.80 points.

Other districts that fared poorly include Patna, ranked 34th, along with Nawada, West Champaran, and Saharsa. Secretary of the Revenue Department, Jay Singh, emphasized that these rankings will be updated monthly and incorporated into the annual performance evaluations of the DMs.

Bihar’s new DM ranking system aims to promote accountability and transparency among district administrations. While Banka has emerged as the best-performing district, poor rankings in places like Araria highlight areas in need of improvement.
