Arvind Kejriwal, the chief minister of Delhi, announced that he would leave his home at 3:30 pm on Sunday in order to turn himself in as the Supreme Court's temporary bail in a dispute over the city's liquor policy expires.
"The day after tomorrow, I will leave my house around 3 pm to surrender. We are fighting against tyranny, and if I have to sacrifice my life for the country, do not mourn," Mr Kejriwal said in a press conference today.
The AAP leader claimed that during his 50-day incarceration, his health had seriously declined, leading to a notable loss of weight and persistent health issues. In addition, he stated that he was not given diabetes medicine.
"I was in jail for 50 days, and in those 50 days, I lost 6 kilos... Even after being released, I have not regained my weight," he shared, adding that doctors are now concerned about his health.
He declared that the welfare of the people of Delhi continues to be his first concern in spite of these obstacles. He pledged that vital programs and services like free energy, hospitals, clinics in Mohalla, free medications, and free bus travel for women will go on uninterrupted.
“Even though I won't be among you, do not worry. All your work will continue," he said. "I may not be with you physically, but your work will not stop.”
In addition, Mr. Kejriwal made a tearful appeal for the public to remember his parents in their prayers and for their well-being.
"My parents are very old... If you pray for my mother daily, she will surely remain healthy," he said.
The Enforcement Directorate detained Arvind Kejriwal on March 21 in connection with a corruption case involving the now-canceled Delhi liquor policy.
According to the investigating team, the Delhi chief minister played a key role in the development of the now-canceled policy and in the demand for bribes in exchange for liquor licenses. The CBI claims that the AAP received ₹ 100 crore in kickbacks, which it utilized to fund its Goa and Punjabi election campaigns.
Several weeks before to the election, the AAP and Mr. Kejriwal have denied all allegations and referred to the arrest and case as a "political vendetta". The AAP is a member of the opposition INDIA group, which is led by the Congress, and the ruling BJP got into a political fight over the detention.
