In anticipation of the "Lehra Do Tiranga" march organized by Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke, Delhi's Connaught Place had become a stronghold by 5 p.m. on Friday. However, the demonstration ended before it could start. Dipke was arrested by the police following a brief argument that concluded just before five o'clock.
At 4:50 p.m., Dipke emerged from the home of NCP (Sharad Pawar faction) leader Anish Gawande in Karol Bagh. He had the Indian flag wrapped around him and was sporting a white T-shirt with a picture of Mahatma Gandhi on it. Dipke had been forced to sign a number of paperwork by a group of police officers for several hours prior, which forbade him from marching in the direction of the demonstration location "without seeking lawful permission."
Dipke was often spotted disputing with the police, claiming that he was just going outside to fly the Indian flag at Connaught Place and wasn't organizing a protest. He questioned, "Is that also prohibited?"
He questioned the police's tactics at one point, even going so far as to order them to hang him. You are merely expressing your feelings through writing. This is absurd. Phansi pe chadha do na. Kya mazak hai ye? (Hang me. "What sort of joke is this?" he asked.
Neha Bora, the president of the All India Students' Association (AISA), was unfazed by Dipke's detention and continued the march, trying to break through a human chain made up of police and paramilitary forces in order to reach Central Park in Connaught Place, the primary commercial center of the country's capital.
Abhijeet Dipke, the founder of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), called on over 2,000 people to march to the park and raise the Indian flag. Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar's resignation has been demanded by both AISA and the CJP.
Bora, however, was arrested shortly after rerouting the flash demonstration in the direction of Mandi House at approximately 5:20 p.m. After her arrest, the protest faded around 7 p.m. amid a large-scale deployment of CAPF and police officers.
Among the 150 demonstrators imprisoned were Dipke and Bora. However, CJP and AISA said they were refused access to attorneys and claimed they had no information regarding the whereabouts of their leaders. Following their preventive detention by Delhi Police during rallies in the nation's capital, the two organizations requested information about Dipke and Bora.
A number of opposition figures, including DMK president MK Stalin, called for their immediate release and asked the Modi administration to cease stifling nonviolent protests.
"It is obviously unlawful and extremely cruel to detain people without revealing their location. They must be freed right away, and the Union administration must cease stifling nonviolent demonstrations. Every effort to put an end to the movement will only make it more powerful, Stalin declared.
The DMK leader reiterated that the BJP-led Central government had no choice but to remove "CEC Gyanesh Kumar."
Mamata Banerjee, the former chief minister of West Bengal, also questioned the authorities, saying, "WHAT IS DELHI POLICE UP TO?"
"Abhijeet Dipke was arrested for possessing the Indian national flag. Give that some thought. "Our youth are being imprisoned in Independent India for peacefully protesting their democratic rights," she continued.
At the time of writing, Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha who has advocated for all protests to be viewed as one, has not commented despite the opinions of a number of other leaders, including AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav.
Is it illegal to wave the national flag, or Tiranga? Kejriwal stated, "Abhijeet's arrest demonstrates how afraid Modi ji is of them."
As Akhilesh declared, "Together, we will fight and defeat their sinister plot to undermine our democracy by attacking our right to vote."
The CJP questioned why the government was treating youth like terrorists in a post on X. It stated that they were entitled to the rights and safeguards provided by the Constitution and that they were equal citizens of India.
The group tagged Delhi Police and asked for information regarding Dipke's whereabouts. It stated that he had simply left his house with the Tricolor and inquired as to how it could be illegal to walk with the national flag.
The mystery surrounding the whereabouts of Dipke and Bora persisted long into the nite. The national organization head of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), Ajinkya Shinde, stood outside the Parliament Street police station after midnight with Anish Gawande by his side. He informed the reporters that they were still investigating Dipke's whereabouts but had not heard back.
Detaining one Abhijeet, according to the CJP, would inspire hundreds more to take up arms. It further stated that thousands of people would march to the streets if one Saurav was imprisoned, and thousands would travel to Delhi if one Ashutosh was imprisoned. The organization claimed that no one could stop the Tricolor, calling it its life and pride.
Meanwhile, AISA posted on X that its president, Bora, was being detained by himself at the Anti-Narcotics Task Force facility in Mangolpuri. The organization said in a later post that she was being transported in a car with unlawfully blacked-out windows from the facility to an undisclosed destination.
According to PTI, former AISA president N Sai Balaji questioned Delhi Police about why Bora was held alone in a bus by plainclothes officers.
Bora was eventually located outside the RK Puram police station, where a number of AISA student protesters had congregated, after allegedly being transported about for hours.
Aditya Krishna, a member of the AISA legal team, stated early on Saturday that they had not heard anything new on Neha Bora.
"As of three in the morning, we have yet to receive any noteworthy or substantial updates. She is here and a medical checkup is being or will be conducted, according to the most recent information we received. We anticipate that she will appear before the magistrate tomorrow morning, and we are receiving some information from various sources," he told ANI.
Bora was freed shortly after, at dawn, while Dipke was detained and scheduled to appear before a Special Executive Magistrate, according to Delhi Police.
