Kamra show dispute: Raut demands that Fadnavis get compensation from Shiv Sainiks for vandalism

Sanjay Raut, the head of the Shiv Sena (UBT), asked Monday that Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis provide Shiv Sainiks compensation for damaging the studio where stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra's program was filmed. Raut told reporters that Fadnavis was unable to manage the home department and that there was "gunda raj" (hooliganism) in the state capital.

For reportedly making disparaging statements about Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde during a performance, Kamra has been charged with a formal complaint by the Mumbai police.

Nearly 40 Shiv Sena members were also charged by the police with vandalizing the Habitat Studio in Mumbai's Khar neighborhood, where Kamra's show including the "gaddar" (traitor) jab at Shinde was taped, as well as the hotel where the studio is situated.

The audience laughed when the comedian used a modified version of a Hindi song from the movie "Dil To Pagal Hai" to mock Shinde.

Raut questioned the necessity of the emotional reaction, claiming Kamra had not named anyone in the satirical song.

"The development is proof that Fadnavis is incapable of handling the home department," he said.

Raut noted that the chief minister should use the same standard to judge Sunday night's vandalism as he had stated that the rioters will be held accountable for any property damage caused during the Nagpur unrest.

In the state capital, he claimed, there was "gunda raj" (hooliganism).

The Mumbai police commissioner's dismissal and action against those responsible for last night's vandalism were urged by the Sena (UBT) MP.

A number of Shiv Sena employees gathered outside the Habitat Studio, which is housed in the Hotel Unicontinental, on Sunday evening. They are accused of looting the hotel and the studio.
