Tear gas shells, water cannons, and baton charges were deployed by the Bihar Police on Wednesday to stop student leaders' "Lok Bhavan march," which was calling for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan due to the NEET paper leak.
Under the guise of the All India Students' Association (AISA), a CPI(ML) Liberation offshoot, the demonstrators faced police action close to Gandhi Maidan, which is roughly three kilometers from the governor's mansion.
Sandeep Sourav, a former national general secretary of AISA and MLA for the CPI(ML) Liberation, led the parade.
"We are protesting in the streets to force the Modi administration to change its ways. He told PTI Videos, "We demand that not only Pradhan but also Union Home Minister Amit Shah tender his resignation following the brutal suppression of the Jantar Mantar protests, as the Delhi Police had acted upon his instructions."
The police did not immediately confirm the number of people detained in connection with the protests here. As the agitation over purported irregularities in competitive examinations entered its second month, Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protesters maintained their sit-in at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on Wednesday.
