On November 4, Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) General NS Raja Subramani declared that 75% of Agniveers who are not chosen for regular enrollment after completing their first four years would have their military duration extended by two years. With the extension, their total time in the military will reach six years. Following that, they will have another chance to be considered for regular duty, subject to selection criteria and performance reviews.
During a news conference, Gen. Subramani stated that the first group of Agniveers was almost at the end of their four-year term and that their performance had received favorable comments.
He said that the idea for the extension had been agreed by the Cabinet after being suggested by the military forces.
PERFORMANCE TO ASSESS FURTHER CHOICE
According to the CDS, performance and accomplishments will continue to be crucial factors in determining Agniveers' future involvement. According to the proposed selection process, those who completed the extra two years would be reevaluated for potential enrollment into the regular military.
In response to inquiries about the Agnipath scheme's future, he stated that the plans were not "set in stone" and that their execution would be governed by the established guidelines.
He said that experience would need to be taken into consideration when reviewing the plan.
Additionally, Gen. Subramani stated that the military was providing Agniveers with possibilities in several branches. Their training and evaluation would include physical fitness, flexibility, technological knowledge, and the capacity to assume various roles.
Pay attention to your abilities and academic credentials.
According to the CDS, Agniveers received training in moral principles, technology, and skill development in addition to physical conditioning. Additionally, he mentioned opportunities for staff members to advance their educational credentials, such as moving from Class 10 to Class 12 and from Class 12 to graduation.
During the conversation, compensation, promotions, and service terms were also covered. The amounts mentioned were Rs 43,500 for the first year and Rs 47,000 for the second.
The current plan will continue to offer the Seva Nidhi bundle. The relevant regulations will control more information regarding roles and compensation under the prolonged engagement.
WHAT THE AGNIPATH SCHEME PROVIDES
Launched in June 2022, the Agnipath scheme provides for the recruitment of young personnel into the Army, Navy and Air Force for an initial period of four years.
Under its original provisions, up to 25 per cent of each batch could be selected for permanent enrolment in the regular cadre, based on performance, organisational requirements and other prescribed criteria.
Those who were not chosen received a one-time Seva Nidhi package and were required to quit their jobs after four years. with order to assist them with finding work outside of the military, the initial program also offered skill certificates.
The initial batch's engagement period is about to expire.
The first cohort of the Navy is scheduled to graduate on November 21, the Air Force on December 21, and the Army on December 31. By the end of 2026, almost 18,000 members of the initial cohort were anticipated to have finished their four years of duty.
The most recent ruling keeps performance-based evaluation as a crucial component of the selection process while adding an extra time of service for individuals who are not chosen for regular enrollment.
