Opposition Leader Suvendu Adhikari would file a case in Calcutta High Court tomorrow. Adhikari and 200 other BJP workers were prevented from entering Raj Bhawan on Thursday afternoon in order to meet with Governor CV Ananda Bose due to post-election unrest. Despite Bose's formal consent, they were stopped by Kolkata police with multi-level barricades outside Raj Bhawan.
"The Governor had given permission to meet 200 victims in writing," Adhikari said. Along with other BJP leaders, Adhikari and 200 BJP workers waited outside Raj Bhawan for over two hours, but the entire area was surrounded by many layers of barricades.
Even after waiting outside for two hours over the scheduled 4 PM meeting time with the governor, the delegation was still unable to gain entry inside Raj Bhawan. Police barricaded all of Raj Bhawan's gates, invoking Section 144 on many occasions. Following the election-related violence in the districts, these BJP employees are being housed in a shelter in Kolkata.
"My secretary has permission from the governor to transport the victims to Raj Bhawan. The Kolkata Police, led by Mamata Banerjee, was instructed to erect barricades on different sides of Raj Bhawan. There has never been a scenario like this. I've been held in my car for more than an hour. Someone has halted my security. We will file a request for action against the Kolkata police and await clearance from the Calcutta High Court. Adhikari remarked, "You cannot utilize your police force in this manner.
Adhikari referred to the situation as "undemocratic" and stated, "I don't break rules like Mamata Banerjee." I abide with the law. I have informed the Governor's OSD about the situation. The cops are in charge of the roadways. I have discovered that Raj Bhawan has requested reports on the matter from the Home Secretary and the Chief Secretary. This is not where we have had any rallies. All of us were inside the cars."
"No one has ever witnessed this kind of circumstance during an emergency. It is against the law to do this. The governor has given his approval, but victims and LoP have been halted. Adhikari stated, "We have brought information about the victims and all offices.
"More than 1200 people now have nowhere to live. Many small children have become homeless as a result of violence, Adhikari said, adding that the governor has approved LoP with 200 victims.
Abhijit Das, the BJP candidate for Diamond Harbour, also brought along victims from the Diamond Harbour Constituency who were affected by post-election violence after the Lok Sabha elections.
