The Karnataka public contract reservation issue upset the Upper House on Monday, forcing the Rajya Sabha to adjourn for the day. In the midst of opposition slogan shouting, Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri moved that the Lok Sabha's amendments to the Oilfields (Regulation and Development) Amendment Bill, 2024, be taken into consideration when the house reconvened for the second time in the post-lunch session following a brief adjournment.
As the commotion persisted, Deputy Chairman Harivansh adjourned the house for the day after the motion was approved by a voice vote.
Following the laying of the listed documents, Harivansh offered the floor to Mallikarjun Kharge, the politician of the Opposition, when the house reconvened in the post-lunch session. Kharge denied that a Congress politician had discussed amending the Constitution.
He claimed that no one from his Karnataka party has mentioned amending the Constitution to grant Muslims reservations.
However, House Leader JP Nadda said that Congress was granting Muslims preference in governmental contracts.
Harivansh adjourned the house for fifteen minutes as a result of the chanting of slogans from both sides.
